Proper care and maintenance are essential for ensuring that your shutters remain in excellent condition for many years. Please follow the guidelines below to preserve the appearance and longevity of your plantation shutters. 

• Do not open shutters away from the window for 24 hours after they are installed, as this gives the caulk and paint time to cure. Louvers can be adjusted up and down if desired.

• Do not use chemicals with ammonia in them, like Windex. Clean only with a damp cloth or dry wipe. Using a feather duster every 1-2 weeks is recommended.

• Never open shutters away from your window using the tilt-rod. Please use the side stile.

• Always use the front tilt-rod to open and close your louvers when you have a front standard tilt rod.

• Always use two hands, on separate louvers, to adjust louvers when you have hidden or rear tilt.

• Always swing open your shutters before trying to open your windows.

If an adjustment is needed to your shutters, there is a tension screw on both sides of the panels on the inside lip. It can be adjusted with a Phillips screwdriver when louvers will not stay in the desired position or if they need to be tighter. 

Arched louvers on plantation shutters only close in an upward position. Due to the radius of the panel, they do not close down. Forcing these louvers in a downward position can break the louver dowel pin.
